June 2007 - Article: Focus on Genre: Poetry - By the Bookhitch Staff

Alternative Venues for Publication

Poetry used to be one of the most revered art forms in human history. Today, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find readers who are enthusiastic about purchasing volumes of poetry, even though more authors are writing it than ever before. How many of our authors (and readers) here at bookhitch have tried their hand at poetry? Surely, most of you have at least attempted it, probably with some rather interesting results, while others have made it their life’s mission, living and breathing verse. In today’s market it is nearly impossible for a new poet to be accepted by a well-known publishing house. This month, we have decided to let all of our aspiring poets know about some alternate venues for getting your poetry published. The following markets accept individual poems, which is great for those who do not have an entire anthology ready for publication!
